Some places stay with us long after we’ve left them—and this charming cottage in Bourton-on-the-Water is one of those places for me. I had painted this very same cottage several years ago, but when I returned to the Cotswolds, I found myself drawn to it all over again.
A few things had changed. The turquoise mailbox was a delightful new addition (and, of course, turquoise happens to be my favorite color!), while other details had shifted with time. Yet somehow, the timeless charm of this centuries-old cottage remained.
I loved the idea of painting it again—not simply as a repeat, but as a new memory of a familiar place. The warm glow, colorful garden, and little touches that had changed over the years reminded me that even the places we think we know can offer something new when we return.
Perhaps that's part of the magic of travel: sometimes we revisit a beloved place and discover it all over again.
