*I am not able to take any new private art students at this time. If you would like to be put on a wait list, please send me a note!
Lessons take place in Keller, Texas* (DFW area).
I am eager to help you achieve your art goals using customized plans. I absolutely LOVE my job and feel blessed that I get to teach and create for a living.
My objective is to help you become more confident in your abilities, and be able to develop your own personal style. We will work on technical skills, composition, color theory, develop eye-hand coordination, and focus on what your needs are as an artist. I have worked with kids and adults of all ages, and have taught beginners through advanced students.
I earned a BFA in Art Education from Baylor University in 1989. My teaching experience includes traditional classroom art in the public school system; training artists in murals and designer finishes; teaching adult workshops, and private art lessons to ages 12-adult.
*Drawing:

My goal for you is to work with a variety of drawing media and to develop eye-hand coordination; to re-enforce traditional drawing skills, to develop new ways of thinking, seeing and creating, to build confidence through a variety of exercises, as well as to create finished works of art. Lessons will be tailored to fit your level.
We'll start with an artist pencil to cover the basic elements of design; line, shape and value:
- how to hold the drawing tools properly, the physical movements involved in drawing, how to erase less
- drawing techniques such as contour line, gestural, linear weight, use of line to create value
- using light and shadow so that images look realistic
Once we've completed your basic skill set training, we'll tackle more complex problems. You will get to choose your image you want to draw and I will help you problem solve your way through the drawing.
The next stage would be to introduce additional techniques (like perspective) and drawing media such as prismacolors, oil pastels, and/or charcoal. We will work with materials that interest you.

*(Lessons come in packages of 4 at a time...$200 per 4 sessions or $180 each for small group).
- $50 per 60 minute lesson for 1 student, ages 12-adult
- $45 each student/60 minute lesson: 2-3 students in a small group together
- Drawing supplies must be purchased on your own (expect to pay around $40-$60) Supplies needed will depend on needs and desires of student. The required supplies to begin with are the following:
-
-
- Strathmore Drawing Paper Pad, minimum size 14 x 17 inches
- Variety of Graphite Artists Pencils, many brands are available. Buy at least five different hardnesses so that you can learn how to use them in different situations. 1 of each: 8B, 4B, 2B, HB, 2H for example, or buy a pre-packaged set that includes a range of hardnesses.
- The brands I use are Faber-Castell and Derwent. Other recommended brands: Staedtler (but not the Mars Lumograph line, which aren’t purely graphite blends), Raffine.
- I do not recommend any brand of woodless pencils (only because they break easily), regular pencils from an office supply or grocery store, yellow pencils with the eraser top.
- 1 clear 12" plastic ruler
- 1 Staedtler Mars large Plastic Eraser (white eraser). Do not get the pink type erasers...they will make marks on your paper.
- 1 Kneaded “Gummy” Eraser.
- 1 Staedtler retractable eraser.
- pencil case of your choice.
- Loew-Cornell blending stumps. (can get a package of assorted sizes).
- pocket folder or 3 ring notebook to keep handouts in
-
- Lessons must be scheduled and paid for monthly in advance.
- Missed lessons will still be charged. Please give me 48 hours in advance if you need to re-schedule. I understand when emergencies arise and will work to accommodate a makeup lesson.
- Lessons will be conducted out of my home in Keller, Texas

*Private Day of Oil Painting

Imagine working with me in my home studio for a full day! You can ask me anything about art. You will have my undivided attention as you receive the personal assistance you would like to take your painting to the next level. The lesson will include a demo as well as hands on painting. We will discuss what you would like to paint before the day of the scheduled lesson.
This opportunity is for beginners through advanced artists, age 15- adult.
- $275
- 10 AM - 4:00 PM
- We will pick a day that works best for both of us
- 45 minute lunch break (you are welcome to bring your lunch or grab a quick bite at a nearby restaurant).
- supplies required (see supply list). **There are 2 different options on supplies. I use specific paints to achieve the clean, colorful results that I do. It is important to have these on hand. You will see on my supply list that there is the option to use professional paints, or for the budget minded, student grade paints to save money. If you can, I strongly urge you to go with the professional paints, because it does make a big difference.
- Option 1: Pay an additional fee ($65) (all supplies included for the day). The advantage is that if you are just starting out, you can try before having to invest in a bunch of paints. Please note that you are "renting" the supplies so you won't be able to take them home with you (except the painting(s) you create...those are yours to keep and display proudly!)
- Option 2: Purchase your own. The advantage of course is that you will have your own set to immediately begin applying all the great techniques you will be learning!
Fill out my contact form if you are interested in signing up. Let me know what days work best for you and I will contact you and get you scheduled!
